How to make your guests feel at home during the coronavirus outbreak

Apr 9, 2020 | Home Marketing, Homeowner Tips

It’s important to make your guests feel at home, ever so now, with the unprecedented outbreak of the novel coronavirus that has caused many to avoid traveling due to the fear of catching the infection.

As a vacation rental owner or property manager, you can take measures to ensure the safety and well being of your guests. In times of uncertainty, it is especially important that we be our best selves.

In this post, we’ll discuss the best practices to keep your vacation rental disinfected while we navigate coronavirus and how you can continue to open your doors for guests and help them feel at home –

What precautions can I take to ensure the safety of our guests?

  1. Disinfect surfaces – clean your vacation rental thoroughly

It’s important to clean your vacation rental thoroughly between each guest turnover. Make sure to disinfect hard surfaces in your property as viruses can live on them for 24 hours. Pay special attention to the bedroom & bathroom. Use antibacterial cleaner on key spots such as tabletops, remote controls, doorknobs, countertops, sinks and light switches to avoid spreading of virus.

  1. Take care while doing laundry

Towels, bedding and other clothes in your property could be full of germs, so don’t ‘hug’ clothes while taking them to the washer. This could spread the germs to you. Instead, consider moving them in a laundry basket and wash your hands after loading them. A hat tip – run an empty cycle of hot water to wash your washing machine as the moist environment can become a breeding ground for germs.

  1. Place hand sanitizers in your rental

Consider providing hand sanitizers to your guests in your rental. If possible, place a hand sanitizer in each of the rooms including, living room and kitchen so that your guests can sanitize their hands regularly and protect themselves during the course of their stay in your rental property.

  1. Educate your guests

You can inform your guests about some of the best practices and safe tips on how to protect themselves during the stay. Here are some prevention measures to stay safe from coronavirus, according to the World Health Organization –

  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Covering your nose and mouth when sneezing
  • Practice respiratory hygiene
  • Minimizing physical contacts such as handshakes and hugs
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

Inform your potential guests that you’re prepared!

It’s very important to make your potential guests feel at ease and have nothing to worry about while staying with your vacation rental. Inform your guests that you are completely aware of the COVID-19 pandemic and you’re on top of the situation by taking actions to safeguard your vacation rental. You can use property listing, social media or emails to inform your guests that you’ve taken all preventive measures for their safety.

Lastly, if your vacation rental is located in one of the quarantined areas, we suggest you follow the recommendations shared by your local government and World Health Organization and take necessary measures to protect your business.
